Solvitur builds a physician group's monthly call schedule from rules you write the way you'd say them, finds a month that satisfies every one, and shows you which held. It was made with the attending who used to build it in Excel.

The names are invented. The shape is a real trauma service: a night and a day every weekday, one 24-hour call on each weekend day, a general surgery night, a week-long unit block, time off honoured, and one cell the scheduler locked by hand.

When a month can't be solved, it names the rules in the way
Most scheduling tools give you a schedule with a rule quietly broken, or nothing. Solvitur re-solves with every rule as an assumption and tells you which set can't all be true together, so you change one on purpose.
March can't be solved. The rules in the way:
- Two nights at most in any seven days
- Okafor: off 14 to 21
- Petrakis: no nights in March

The solver finds the schedule that satisfies every rule and balances the rest. It usually takes seconds, and it proves the result is the best one available.

Drag a swap, lock a cell, split a weekend between two people. Then build again around what you locked, or keep your edit and see what it cost.

One final version per month. What you publish feeds the rotation and the first week of the next month, so continuity carries across.

Every person gets a calendar file for their own row. The group's Excel workbook exports in the layout it already uses.
Rules are rows you own
Fairness counted the way your group counts it.
Every rule is a row on a screen, written in plain terms, and you can read them all back at any time. A rule can apply to the whole group or to one person: a reduced FTE, no nights this quarter, a week that must be theirs. Nothing about your department lives in someone else's configuration.
Fairness is counted the way your group already counts it, and scaled by each person's FTE. A service set up to count calls treats a weekday day as work but not a call. General surgery counts shifts instead. Which applies is part of how your department is configured.
